The dangerous part of closing a Quora account is not finding the button. It is choosing Delete when you meant “stop the emails,” or choosing Deactivate when you expected years of answers to disappear. Decide what should happen to your content before entering the password.

Deactivate versus delete

  • Deactivate: stops Quora emails and notifications, but your published content remains available. Logging in later reactivates the account.

  • Delete: immediately deactivates the account and begins a 14-day deletion process. Logging in during those 14 days cancels deletion.

  • After deletion completes: Quora says the account cannot be recovered and most associated content is removed from public view.

  • Questions remain: questions are treated as community-owned content, though Quora says they will no longer be publicly associated with your name.

  • External copies remain possible: deletion cannot remove screenshots, search caches, quotations, or republications hosted by other parties.

Before touching the delete button

  1. Review answers, comments, posts, messages, Spaces, follows, and account connections that matter to you.

  2. Request a copy of your Quora data before deletion. Quora’s help center says requests can be sent to privacy@quora.com or through its contact form using “I want a copy of my data.”

  3. Save any original writing, images, references, or conversations you are entitled to retain.

  4. Transfer or document responsibilities for Spaces or collaborative work.

  5. Remove billing relationships or advertising/business access through the relevant product controls; do not assume consumer-account deletion resolves every separate commercial obligation.

  6. Confirm access to the primary email address and password-recovery method.

  7. Record the deletion date and calculate the end of the 14-day grace period without planning to sign in again.

How to deactivate your Quora account

  1. Sign in to Quora using a trusted browser or the official app.

  2. Open your profile menu and select Settings.

  3. Open the Privacy section.

  4. Scroll to the account-management controls and choose Deactivate Account.

  5. Enter the requested password and confirm.

  6. Verify that expected emails and notifications stop; remember that your existing content remains on Quora.

Use deactivation when you need distance, fewer notifications, or time to decide. It is not a content-erasure tool. A later login restores access, which is useful for a pause but unsuitable if your goal is permanent removal.

How to permanently delete your Quora account

  1. Finish the backup and ownership checks above.

  2. Sign in, open the profile menu, and go to Settings → Privacy.

  3. Choose Delete Account.

  4. Enter your Quora account password and confirm the warning.

  5. Sign out on every device and close Quora tabs. Remove saved sessions from shared browsers.

  6. Do not log in through the website, app, Google, or Facebook during the next 14 days; a login reactivates the account and cancels deletion.

  7. After the grace period, verify from a signed-out/private browser rather than trying to sign into the deleted account.

If you joined with Google or Facebook

Quora’s deletion instructions say an account created through Google or Facebook may need a Quora password before deletion can be confirmed. In account settings, use Change Password and create an account password, then return to Privacy → Delete Account.

  • Use the primary email address attached to Quora.

  • Choose a unique password; do not reuse the Google or Facebook password.

  • A social-login provider connection and the Quora account are separate records. Review and revoke the Quora connection in the provider’s security settings after the Quora workflow is complete.

  • Do not repeatedly attempt login during the grace period while troubleshooting a social-provider prompt.

What Quora says deletion removes

  • Profile information, including photos and biography.

  • Answers, comments, posts, votes, endorsements, and messages associated with the account.

  • Personal data associated with the account from Quora’s databases after the grace period, subject to stated legal-retention obligations.

  • Public association between your name and questions you asked, while the community-owned questions themselves remain.

“Removed from Quora” is narrower than “erased from the internet.” Other people may have quoted or republished content, search engines may retain temporary caches, and legal obligations may require limited retention. Treat a public post as data that may have escaped the original platform.

Privacy settings may solve the real problem

  • Disable unwanted email and notification categories instead of closing the account.

  • Adjust discoverability and search-engine visibility where available.

  • Delete individual answers, comments, or posts when only specific content is the concern.

  • Block or report users for harassment rather than sacrificing access to your own account evidence.

  • Change the password, revoke suspicious sessions, and secure the account email if compromise—not platform use—is the problem.

Troubleshooting deletion problems

  • No Delete Account option: confirm you are in the Privacy settings of the correct account and use the current web interface if the app differs.

  • Password is rejected: reset it through the primary email; social-login accounts may first need a Quora password.

  • Deletion was canceled: any login during the 14-day period can reactivate the account. Start again and sign out everywhere.

  • Public questions remain: Quora identifies questions as community-owned; deletion removes public name association rather than the question itself.

  • A copied answer remains elsewhere: contact the external host or republisher; Quora account deletion cannot directly remove third-party data.

  • You need faster deletion or cannot access the account: use Quora’s official contact form and provide only the verification information it requests.

  • Emails continue after deactivation: check whether they come from another Quora account/address, allow settings to propagate, then use official support and mail headers to diagnose.

Verify the outcome without undoing it

  1. Keep the confirmation message and deletion date outside Quora.

  2. During the grace period, do not open authenticated Quora links or the app.

  3. After 14 full days, use a private browser to inspect the old public profile URL and representative content.

  4. Check the primary inbox for unexpected reactivation or security notices.

  5. Review Google/Facebook connected apps and remove Quora authorization when no longer needed.

  6. Retain the downloaded archive securely or delete it once its purpose is complete.
